Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a bodywork therapy combining a scientific understanding of the body with mindful awareness, intentional and specific touch to support the body’s unique, built-in healing system.

Every person can expect to have a unique experience receiving Craniosacral Therapy for the first time and consecutive sessions as well.

Typically, a session begins with gentle and negotiated touch as I hold your feet.  I will talk with you throughout the process, to support your awareness of what you may sense or feel during the session as I listen with my hands and heart.

Some people notice changes such as:

  • Feeling lighter/heavier whilst laying on the table
  • Body temperature changes
  • Movement of muscles of body
  • Changes in muscle tension and releases in your body
  • Movement of fluid around your body
  • Becoming aware of emotions, memories and visions

Client’s may experience emotional sensations, including the urge to laugh, cry, shake or move. I will provide safety in the space I hold for you to invite you to fully feel your experiences in your body.

Craniosacral Therapy sessions are 45-50 minutes. This allows enough time to drop in and be really spacious and to gain the most benefits from the session.
The session length of 45-50 minutes also allows time to go deeper into your experience, to let go of day-to-day stressors and to connect with yourself in the present moment. This time for relaxation supports integrating and alignment, allowing your body and nervous system to re-organise and settle into a new balance.
This balance may be felt on many levels- emotional, physical, mental and spiritual, including after the session as your alignment continues to centre and anchor itself.

After the session, it is recommended for you to keep hydrated and drink plenty of water. This helps to maintain your body’s balance after the treatment and to gain the most out of the session.

Following the session, some people may notice changes in their energy levels (perhaps more energy or sometimes more restful states), changes in thirst or hunger levels, clarity of mind, sense of their body awareness (feeling light or heavy in their body), attention levels and may require more sleep. These effects can last up to 24-48 hours after the session, as your body systems continue to integrate the shifts and changes occurring as a result of treatment.

At your first appointment we will discuss the recommended duration of treatment sessions for you and the frequency of your appointments (weekly, fortnightly).

Many people typically benefit from a minimum of 5-10 regular sessions (weekly/fortnightly) depending on their health concerns.
If you haven’t received Craniosacral Therapy before or you are seeing a new CST therapist, I recommend booking a minimum of 3 sessions (no longer than 1-2 weeks apart) to allow time to decide if it is the right fit for you.

As the benefits of Craniosacral Therapy are cumulative, people often find that they gain more from treatment over and extended period of time.
Some people find they experience significant changes in a short time frame after receiving Craniosacral Therapy, however it is not intended to be a ‘quick fix’ for any health condition or to support health concerns.
Your commitment to yourself will also influence what you gain from Craniosacral Therapy.

Whenever seeking close support through therapy it is imperative that both yourself, and the therapist, establish and share a connection where a safe container can be held for your experiences to enable you to gain the most from your sessions.

I believe that every individual will find their preferred therapist, and sometimes this involves exploring several different experiences.  I recommend going to see a number of different therapists to find the person you best connect with. You can search Pacific Association of Craniosacral Therapists (PACT) to find a Craniosacral Therapist in your area.

If you see your therapist regularly for massage, counselling/psychology/talk therapy, physiotherapy/ chiropractic or energy healing, it can be beneficial to continue with these appointments in conjunction with Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST). It is recommended to continue with other therapy appointments, unless you decide to take a break or require greater financial flexibilty.
Talk-based therapy can further support your self-awareness and processing your experiences during the process of reciving bodywork therapy such as BCST.

I work with people of all ages and life stages as Craniosacral Therapy can benefit everyone, no matter your age or ability.
Depending on who the client is, a session may take place on a soft mat on the floor with pillows for very young children, or an older person may wish to sit comfortably in a chair instead of lying down on the massage table. I will always work with each person to ensure their comfort and safety throughout the session.

Great news! Craniosacral Therapy is highly supportive of the nervous system to reach the rest-digest-relax state (called the parasympathetic state). When your body can reach a deep state of relaxation, you have access to explore your creativity, emotional wellbeing, spiritual health and subconcious world.  You can certainly gain benefits from receiving Craniosacral Therapy without having any significant or current health concerns, including experiencing luxurious relaxation and rest.
